Why Electric Cars Really Are Very Powerful Machines

Filed under: Hybrids — Admin @ 11:16 pm

Perhaps the most exciting electric car out right now is the Tesla Roadster, which can travel 350km on a single charge of its lithium-ion battery pack. It is also extremely fast - it does 0-60mph in just 3.9 seconds, which is faster than the average lamborghini or ferrari. There is no doubt that this would be an amazing car to drive. Of course, it’s pretty pricey (the cost is something like $100,000) but it is proof that electric cars really are amazing machines.

If you want, you can always just build an electric car yourself. This will of course take a certain amount of time and money. If you are really resourceful, you’ll be able to do the whole thing for under a thousand bucks. It could be an interesting project if you like working with cars.

Interestingly, the electric car was one of the first automobiles around. Way back in 1828 - almost two centuries ago - the first electric car model was made. Since then, the technology for electric cars has obviously advanced, and it’s unfortunate that there are virtually no electric cars actually on the road today. Very few electric cars were even produced by major car companies, even though heavy researched proved that it was a viable concept.

If you are wondering how to build an electric car, then you’ll want to do some research first. You may have heard that you won’t be able to convert your car into an electric vehicle for around $8,000-12,000. The reality is, you don’t need to spend anywhere near this much, and you can do the conversion with just a few hundred bucks if you know what you’re doing.

The idea that you can convert your vehicle into an electric car is certainly appealing. Electric cars have tons of advantages - you can run them on practically no gas whatsoever, and you’ll find that the engine is way quieter. Many electric cars can go over 150-200 miles before needing to be recharged.

In 1996, General Motors actually developed the first electric car. It was called the EV1 and only a few hundred were ever produced. There was a lot of disbelief from consumers and some poor marketing. In a survey, most people had never heard of the EV1 or any electric car at all. Also, many speculate that major oil and car companies got together to prevent the EV1 from ever becoming mainstream on the market. For more information, you will definitely want to check out the “who killed the electric car” documentary.
